Architecture at Purana Qila

Purana Qila: Qila e Kohna Masjid

Built by Sher Shah in 1542, this beautiful monument provides us with a glimpse of how mosque architecture in Delhi evolved. It stands opposite to the Bada Darwaza, mosque has odd numbered arches with the central arch being the largest. The central arch is extensively decorated with white marble, red sandstone and grey quartizite and is surrounded by two sets of arches known as sawaal and jawab.The borders of the arches have bands of Quranic verses carved in them.
